City defensive ace Alanna Kennedy is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast.

Our classy centre-half becomes the seventh women’s star to appear on our show, following appearances from Laura Coombs, Steph Houghton, Jill Roord, Bunny Shaw, Mary Fowler and Jess Park.

City’s No.33 spoke on a host of topics in the half hour interview.

Quizzed by presenters George Kelsey and Paul Dickov, the 29-year-old discussed her early years in football playing in a boys team, which she says she cherished because it helped her resilience levels shoot up.

She talked about her first hero, Matildas star Heather Garriock and how, as a kid, she watched Aussie aces like Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka starring in the Premier League.

Kennedy spoke about her versatility on the pitch and how she started as a No.10 before impressing as a No.6, which remains her favoured position on the field.

She insisted that playing in that midfield area has helped her star at City because defenders in blue are expected to be confident and assured on the ball, something needed if you’re controlling the centre of the park.

She discussed her journey in football, from Australia to America as she chased the sunshine before moving back to Australia ahead of another adventure in England in the WSL with Tottenham and then City, where she’s been since 2021.

On to the modern day and the Australia international chatted about the brilliant derby win over Manchester United and her late call-up to that match at the Etihad.

She discussed the push for the WSL title, her friendship with ‘world-class’ Alex Greenwood and the team’s ‘unreal’ defensive record before answering questions sent in from fans, including her favourite English dish. Food for thought!
